Welcome to Andrea’s Art Evolution! I live with chronic pain every second of every day, and I have since 2009. I am awakening the artist inside me and focusing this immense pain I am experiencing into beautiful glimpses of my world.
To live with pain, one must understand how to keep the pain at bay with the mind. It is a challenging prospect that I’ve worked on for nearly fourteen years. It all comes down to finding exciting and rewarding distractions in one’s life to “block” the pain or to occupy the mind with other things so that the pain becomes secondary and easier to ignore.
Activities like video games, art projects, a really good book, or an exciting movie can all do the trick of making the mind ignore the pain in favor of concentrating on something more enticing.
When I first began having severe pain, I would wander through my house, hoping to leave the pain behind me in some other room. It never happened once. My pain always followed me. For years I sat in front of the tv in pain, wishing it would go away. Finally, I’d had enough. I realized that I was not going to improve. The best thing to do is to meet the challenge head-on. I started playing video games.
While video games are distracting, they are not necessarily the best or most complete distraction out there.
Andrea’s Art Evolution explores the enticing world of art and one woman’s journey to improve her skills and find peace amongst the pain. The goal is not perfection. The goal is complete immersion. Enjoy!
